Great list, Roc. I wouldn't mind paying, $500 for all that.
Oh, and a slide out keyboard too!

I agree with most of your list, Roc, but that must be a personal preference. I'd rather read on the widest screen possible and practical.

I think it depends on the type of material you are reading - websites are best displayed in landscape, while eBooks (eg. FBReader) are best displayed in portrait.

Yeah, by 'reading' I meant RSS and eBooks. And hey, it's cool if we disagree Tex, that's why I asked for a switch.
We can all use it however we personally prefer.

Also, something I had in my head but apparently didn't get into the post was that most of the shameless 'upgrades' were a concept for a hypothetical hardware variant.

A fictional n905 to complement the 'baseline' n900, which would be just the n800 beefed up with sane upgrades and maybe wimax or n. But not the good camera, not the HDD, not the GPS, etc.

The idea was something that was a valuable all-in-one bundle, without adding functionality that you couldn't get with just an n900 + bluetooth devices (so the community wouldn't fracture).

And as for '$1200', I disagree. I don't see a reason why it would be much more than $600 and I'm ok with that.

I realize that reaches into UMPC/Laptop range - but the form-factor and accessibility keep it a distinct and valuable proposition in my mind. And so long as its wholly optional -- it could live or die on its own merit.

I'd still prefer wide with ebooks. I's rather the page width take advantage of the wider part of the screen than the narrower part, the latter resulting in smaller text and/or more panning.

But that's me. I agree with Roc on one thing: more (viewing) options would be great.
