Maybe it helps to stand up again if you get at least a newer playstore version as reward?
The latest version to be working on xperia x i tested is this 7-3-25.
It should work if you disable dalvik, remove playstore, install linked version, then to stop update of playstore itself
    Code:
    touch /data/app/com.android.vending-2.apk
    chattr +i /data/app/com.android.vending-2.apk

This is what I did, set the Opera browser VPN to report my as Germany, instead of the US. Worked fine. (It did raise a PayPal fraud alert, and PayPal now wants me to change my password, which I have been loathe to do since it's one of the very few that I actually memorize for use when away from my password vault.)

Are there any tips or snippets of advice before I go ahead with the re-flash?

I'm not an early bird to Sailfish by no means, owning 3 Jollas (1 needing a recovery :P) and my current phone is an Aqua Fish.
    Thankees in advance.
Since you're to the unlocking stage, I guess you're not backing up your DRM stuff from the original FW. If that's the case, I don't think you'll have any troubles following the installation instructions. Everything was straightforward and without hiccups.

But BTW, you might want to test the hardware (wifi, wireless, sdcard, speakers, etc., etc.) fully before flashing SFOS, just in case anything isn't working and you need to return the device.

As I had no more updates, I removed all Android apps, an reinstalled. Unfortunately as soon as Google Play has updated, Android apps won't receive any updates any more, and new apps cannot be installed. Aptoide is of no use really.

So, in comparison to the Jolla 1, I find myself with a device with a healthy battery and a better screen, but worse Android support. Big bummer.

(Sorry guys, I want at least Whatsapp, Wordfeud and the Rabobank app, and if possible c:geo, GCC and some more handy stuff. I've already read all the remarks that a real sailor should not want it. But there are no alternatives for me.)
For the Play Store updating issue, do this

So I finally did send my Xperia to warranty because right front speaker broke. I also noticed small backlight leak at bottom of the screen.
I only flashed android back with emma tool without DRM keys and it went trought.
They also replaced side buttons and battery for some reason.
I bought the phone from verkkokauppa.com.

I can confirm that version 7.3.26 works on Sailfish X too, that's what I've installed on my Xperia X.

Yep. Latest which allows downloading from 'uncertified' device.
