Re: "Fixed in Fremantle"

As to the argument about "embedded" vs. "desktop", I absolutely don't buy it. There's nothing conceptually different between my laptop running Debian and my N800 running, for all practical purposes,...

Re: "Fixed in Fremantle"

All this talk about the community back-porting fremantle doesn't help with the fact that nokia/maemo are closing bugs raised against chinook/diablo as fixed, when they are only fixed in firmware that...

Re: "Fixed in Fremantle"

Personally, I find being told that something is fixed but I can't have it more annoying than being told nothing. Ignorance is bliss, after all.

I've not had any major speed complaints about the...

Re: Is the Maemo5 development/release process unprecedented?

Here in Maemo Software R&D in Nokia, we developed Maemo 5 initially on N810 hardware until the hardware adaptation to the new hardware was working. Now we are working mostly on the new hardware with...

Re: I only wish for one thing?

I'm going to go for a better screen -- 5.6" 1280x800 from the U820 would be nice in a nearly N800-sized device, but a 4.5" or so 1024x600 would be nice, and more reasonable.

Re: I only wish for one thing?

GNU toolset+dash+bash. instead of Busybox. Much easier porting for many libraries, apps, etc. Come on, it's only 3.5mb extra use in flash (busybox is 300kb) for a lot less headache for developers....

Re: I only wish for one thing?

If we had hardware 3D (enabled?) maybe we could really improve the smoothness of the whole user experience, make the whole interface a little more like Canola, and make Canola's eye candy a little...

Re: The N800 has a 3D accelerator, right?

Well, that, and signing an NDA with a graphics company is pretty much literally selling away your soul.

Re: The N800 has a 3D accelerator, right?

Well spotted Jon,

However, there is no interaction with the powervr chip within this driver.

this driver code is for the 2d normal framebuffer.
This is equivalent to the already open omapfb.c...

Re: maemo.org mock-up design/ideas

The better question is: Why make things unnecessarily...

Re: Dr. Ari Jaaksi on Maemo 5

Eventually the entire phone service model will be flipped: everything will run on IP instead of the old "POTS" way or the hodge-podge we have now. Nokia would be crazy (as a corporate entity) not to...
