Re: Elop on Helsingin Sanomat: N9 the last Meego phone even if it is succesfull.

As usual we get a lot of hyperventilation over poorly understood quotes.

"Elop says that there is no return to Meego, even if the N9 is sales success."

No, there isn't. Nokia has made its...

Re: Why I am getting a Nokia N9 (are you?)

@mrojas that's right, freedom of choice is most important. Back when I were managing console game development for a pretty small software house, we were shackled by the harsh terms and conditions set...

Re: In your opinion, what is N9 (MeeGo / Harmattan) missing?

iOS has 3rd party support coming out of their nostrils

no such support exists for the N9

thats why stuff like flash is needed at this point in time

Re: Maemo - Android Rant (only small)

I'm really worried about finding a Maemo replacement as well.

Android, iOS, Bada and Symbian are all operating systems that let you play a games, and place phone calls. That's it!

Maemo is...

Re: Porting Maemo/Meego to Android hardware - how plausible?

Could be hard.
It can(??) be done if the cpu is OMAP 34**. You need to use the Maemo(Beta4 IIRC) SDK.
Have a look here: http://maemo-beagle.garage.maemo.org/
The link is for beagleboard...

Re: MeeGo 1.2 RC1 on 30.03.11

Haha! just made my first call using Meego, even though it is running from a really crappy class 4 card I have to say I am surprise how fast the response is. Once stuff is in the RAM, everything feels...

Re: MeeGo 1.2 RC1 on 30.03.11

If you backport the kernel drivers and parts of DSS2, maybe. I really tried to backport them and I didn't succeed - .28 vs .37 is really a jump

Re: MeeGo 1.2 RC1 on 30.03.11

I was reffering to the closed components within Maemo, never said anything about closed anything on MeeGo.

Thankfully there is quite a big team working on Meego so with a bit of luck we will not...

Re: MeeGo 1.2 RC1 on 30.03.11

Just so everyone else than abill_uk isn't confused. The closed source bits I listed in my post are redistributable and will be there in any MeeGo N900 image and you can even redistribute them in your...

Re: power kernel 42 & fcam 1.0.7.1 problems

You can enable devel, then do an "apt-get install --reinstall" on the kernel power 46 packages and fcam-drivers 1.0.7-2. After that disable devel again. That way you wont risk installling anything...

Re: [Council] "Chromium" removed from maemo.org repositories

i've downloaded the latest source and looked into recompiling for maemo5.
I must say, it didn't look exactly a walk in park, they recommend a GOOD cpu and 6GB of ram to prevent compilation errors....

Re: Saw someone's underused and underappreciated N900 today

Please search the forum for that one... basically, the higher clocking doesn't increase power consumption that much (certainly not when running at lower voltages), but overclocking lets the CPU go to...

Re: Saw someone's underused and underappreciated N900 today

Re: What is the next phone after you loved N900

N900 going to very hard to beat when you look at the pure versitality of it so no idea when or even if anything will match it even in the distant future.

One thing the N900 has taught everyone is...

Re: Apple iPad 2

@ysss,
I think contributions, even small, can be massively influencial at the right place/time and are not solely dependent on marketshare. This has been shown in art and science over the ages.

Re: Maybe the unpleasant truth is that MeeGo really was too late and/or not good enough?

Also WP7 is not backward compatible with 6.5, nor does the sdk resemble anything from 6.5 nor are the dev tools the same.

All Microsoft did was release into production an incomplete sdk and a new...

Re: Maybe the unpleasant truth is that MeeGo really was too late and/or not good enough?

I truly doubt it was 10 folks only working on MeeGo; however if that's the case, that was Nokia's pre-Elop decision.

If Elop didn't see the value in MeeGo, then that was the board's inability to...

Re: Maybe the unpleasant truth is that MeeGo really was too late and/or not good enough?

You're probably right. But this also means that Elop is a weak leader.

Steve Jobs did not sell off Apple. He re-innovated.
