Yes. Don't get me wrong, but may i also bring to your attention that this seems like the typical FOSS response? Doing it yourself? That can't be a "fits all"-type of attitude...

Seems like need to delete partitions then. first install leafpad or if you can work with vi no problem.
copy the attachment to your N900 memory.
BusyBox v1.20.2 (Debian 1.20.2power5+thumb0)...

for the ones facing space problem since it created 2 partiton on your card
1 ext3 and 1 fat you need to format the entire card not just 1 partion to again see the space as whole.

Look into qml as well. Its a fast easy way of building a front end - hell even a back end.

i suggest you work with qt, its like a framework for building the apps that should save you some work.
there's some tutorials out there that should get you started...
