[Announce] Evernote client for n900

Hello all

I'd like to present an Evernote client for n900.

Qvernote is in extras now! Thanks all for voting!

0.5.3 is out because n900 users deserve the Best!
God knows we suffer enough :)
In this version I bring you PDF and Audio files preview, GPS positioning updates.
Also, the thumbnails are rendered exactly like on Evernote web page.
This update closed the gap between Evernote client for lesser phones and this one!
With release of QtMobility 1.1 I'll add more exciting features.

I really hope this release is stable and bug-free, still dont hesitate to report any problem to me

The DB has been moved to a new location under MyDocs to take advantage of 32G partition

The new version fixed several bugs and added some cool features.

Warning: It may take a LONG time to synchronize large note store on first run, so be patient

Instructions for upgrading from garage 0.3-1 version:

1. Uninstall the old qvernote.
2. rm -f /opt/lib/libEvernote* /opt/lib/libthrift*
3. Install the new version
4. If install still fails, run the following on root prompt:
apt-get remove libevernote1.15 thrift0.2.0
and try to install again

Sorry, the package has to be significantly altered in order to pass autobuilder. Future upgrades will be fine

Big update!!!!

The first beta of Qvernote released in a goal to create a perfect Evernote client for n900
This beta can work in offline mode, no internet connection is needed. If you dont have an Evernote account, you still can use Qvernote as a regular notebook.

Other notable features:
Supports all kind of notes except CRYPT
Trash management (undelete only, expunge is not allowed on clients)
On-demand resource loading (conserve bandwidth)
Note zoom-in and zoom-out

This version has a lot of bugs I know of, and some bugs I dont know, feel free to report them here.

OK, "first impressions" after a very quick tour :

1) *VERY* impressive for a "0.1 alpha" ! :-)
The UI feels nice, connecting and moving around inside my account, looking at things, all went well. Haven't tried editing/adding stuff yet.

2) feels a little slow at collecting items while entering a notebook, but maybe that's just the Evernote API...

3) a couple of issues:

- does not always fail gracefully in case of network problems (like on startup ?)

- encoding problems with non-English text. Are you using UTF-8 ?...

All in all, a great start ! I hope you can fine-tune it and turn it into the killer client Evernote should have done themselves :-)

Couple of things

1. All caps in the notes. Annoying
2. Password doesnt echo when typing. Typos easily made
3. Hitting the tag icon in a note crashes the app.

Any idea if there will be a webclipper for maemo.

one problem for me - only supports english. the text in my notes in chinese and hebrew is not displayed correctly.

Ok appears to have been a one time only thing. Next time I entered was fine.

I do have a feature request however. Points/lists. I make a lot of lists and the ability to have bullets/numbers is key. Would be great if the maemo version supported that as well as the web version does.

You can use the bookmarklet they provide for Firefox. Just rightclick and add it to your bookmarks (I have a folder for bookmarklets). Works the same as the webclipper in Windows. You can select what you want using the mouse cursor, or clip the entire page. Either way, when you want to clip something, bring up your bookmarks and click on that bookmarklet. A small evernote window will pop up on that page allowing you to choose the folder and edit any tags and names you may want.

Hmm I installed it from the devel repo but there's no icon for it and I can't seem to find it in the terminal either.

Make sure you connected to internet before starting the app.

Do not install it from repository, the package is broken, download it from https://garage.maemo.org/frs/downloa...emo1_armel.deb and install by running

dpkg -i qvernote_0.2-1maemo1_armel.deb

I'll put the correct package in repository as soon as possible

this is my comments:

1) The UI is fantastic.
2) When I enter a notebook, the load is slow with this message "Loading notes. Please wait...". I have 80 notes in my notebook more or less.
3) The application is blocked randomly when load a notebook.
3) Can I modify the size of fonts?.

I´ve a problem when save a note. Appears the message: "failed to save note. The element BR must be terminate...".

I´ve installed 0.2 version but in the "about" option appears 0.1 alpha.

I try edit an existent note. the exact error message is:

"failed to update note. The element type ´br´ must be terminated by the matching end-tag "/br".

Other issue. When I go back at notebook without touch icon save, the note is not saved. Is correct this behavior?.

If I try to run it from the menu, it doesn't work.

I've noticed that when I tried to run it from the terminal:

A quick hack solved the issue:

...and it worked. But it would be better if the program would solve this issue by itself. Maybe add /opt/lib to /etc/ld.so.conf if it's not there? Maybe you can add this to the deb's postinst script:

Yes, Thank you.....But will someone PLEASE do this for OS2008... I know there are hundreds (if not thousands) of N800/N810 users who are crying for a true Evernote App :confused:
