How to disable app. manager background service? (large roaming traffic)

I was recently on vacation and while trying to chat via pidgin (matter of a few kb) I found that the app manager started downloading "large" amounts of data (2.5mb) that due to the roaming totaled to 10 euros on my bill.

Should this be reported as a bug as there's no apparent way to disable auto-checking for updates?

I'd tend to agree with that synopsis - I'm not happy about the way that you specify a tether and connect, then it immediately starts checking all Emails, reading package lists, building new catalogues etc etc when all I want to do is check the weather on the net!

I want to specify what it searches for an when - not be dictated to....

Yeah.. there should be an "abroad" profile where the ability to make and recieve calls still working but the internet is closed. Wifi could still be open though.

And in case you don't know how to reach that file, here's a tutorial: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=41422

Also I entered the value without [,] commas.
