there's a linux packaged called "snoop" I think that lets you eavesdrop on an RS232 connection. If I remember right you simply install snoop on a box with two serial ports and then use it as a "man in the middle". It sits in the middle of the conversation and logs everything from both sides.

i'm pretty sure there is a serial port in the pins next to the battery.
