You should read a little more... Hacker edition are just version of the OS made by Nokia and not officially supported ... but nevertheless supported by the Nokia dev team.

Fossil ... don't think so. With OS2007 and soon OS2008 the 770 is more than usable ... only advantage I see in the n800/n810 is the speed boost ...

Fanoush kernel with MMC speed-up is a must ... really boost the whole system (if the OS is installed on the MMC card).
right now I'm using the multiblock writes version without any problem.

Strange, really stable here ... more stable than OS2006 I say. Also the device always look really fast. Never experienced a slow down.
Only rare problem have had is reboot/crash due to wifi usage....

Did you bought your card from ebay (hong kong or china based dealer) ?
Almost all Kingston 2Gig RS-MMC mobile card on ebay are fake ... cheap imitation..
I hope this is not your problem.

On my 770 2007HE is quicker and more stable then OS 2006.
If you want more speed, I really recommend you to install the OS on a MMC card...

nope it possible but kind of complicated.
in short:
- you have to extract the rootfs from the fiasco image
- copy the jffs2 img to a virtual ram mtdblock
- make a tar
- extract tar to mmc ...

You can work as you want, if Ubuntu mobile require a 900Mhz cpu and 1Gig of RAM you are f***ck.
I remember seeing that Ubuntu mobile require at least 512Megs of RAM ... Nokia 770 as 64megs and...

I don't known, the combo memory chip look like a BGA or QFN package (pin under the chip)... you will have a hard time solder a new one on the board.
