Re: My brief take on the N900
Wow, too bad u leave out of a lot bad stuff to make it look better..
Almost no mention of:
- Lack of portrait modes
- An outdated UI when compared to HTC Sense, WebOS or on the X10. Lame...

Re: Openness: Maemo vs Android
@JJX: Yeah you're right I was a bit though on ya.
Btw, what I dislike about Maemo is that Nokia is basically in control of both the OS (Maemo) and the hardware (N900's). Android is neither. Unlike...

A Mascotte
I think Maemo could use a nice mascotte for an even better appeal to the public. A lot of open source software have mascotte.

Maemo vs Psion 5MX
Seriously, looking at it from a purely consumer perspective Maemo isn't all the great. The Psion 5MX was a lot more polished product.
Besides the terrific keyboard. The OS was very responsive. It...

Re: How is the email capabilities on the N900?
1. It's not possible to search your e-mail.
2. It's not possible to directly copy & paste from e-mails (although it's possible with a work-around).
3. No push e-mail for Gmail yet.
4. IIRC no...

Re: Openness: Maemo vs Android
The N900 is not an "open source phone".
You probably mean the phone's operating system is open source.
Or even better: You want to mean that Maemo is Free Software. As " open source " doesn't...

Security on N900
Hi,
Something that hardly (if ever) comes up in reviews are the security features of the N900/Maemo. So maybe someone could help me out here:
1. Is is possible to encrypt the SD-filesystem, so...

Re: N900 - Yes, it sucks.
It's not difficult to run Debian on ARM. The difficulty is getting access to your phone's hardware. HTC devices (like G1, HERO) are quite open to development, so it was a lot easier for the community...

Re: N900 - Yes, it sucks.
It doesn't run in a virtual machine, it runs natively. Because Debian supports ARM. So basically Debian is able to run on any smartphone that has an ARM CPU.

Re: N900 - Yes, it sucks.
Yh Android does and it did so long before the N900. The T-Mobile G1 (and e.g. HTC Hero) run FULL Debian. Yes, they also support native X11, so you can run KDE, LXDE, IceWM whatever you want. So what...

Re: So,... I bought the HD2
The HTC HD2 only supports 65k colors, which is kinda lame for a nice huge 4,3" (or something like that) screen. The N900 supports 16 million colours. Only 65k colors is so 1990s. Movies, Pictures,...

How come there is not a subforum for Maemo ports to other devices? Maemo is Open Source, so porting it to other devices shouldn'f be hard rigfht? Android has been ported to a lot of...
