fdisk does fail to work in the normal privleges settings, but the above description, of the tools showing nothing, seemingly frozen (although I can minimise and move around the tablet without lag)...

I tried that and it still failed. Uninstalling the old version, the downloading the newer version fixed it for me (without uninstalling it failed though).

The MSN protocol has recently changed, so the older version of AMSN won't connect. You'll need the latest release to get it to work again :)

All sorted now, was a router setting, on the odd chance this helps anyone else, when adding a device to the WL500G, be sure to add the mac address to both the MAC filter and the internet firewall...

hmm, I think it might still be the dhcp issue - it is set to manual now, both form the tablet, and via the router according to MAC address, but although the tablet says connected, and i can see it...
