NOAA charts of US waters (Pacific)

After seeing someone talking about NOAA charts on an iPhone app, I played around and converted some to a slippy map that works on my tablet. They aren't all there, just ones more useful for myself...

Stream URL passed to media player has no cookie, referer or authentication information so "open with media player" will fail if you needed to login to get media. Save to file works. Or the website...

There is an app "Navit" which will read unlocked Garmin maps. Sort of.
Worked for me with some topographic maps.

Diablo has an A-GPS app which should let you enter your approximate position for a faster fix. An associated daemon (supld) will retrieve ephemeris data over the net, and position guesses from WiFi...

No. It uses JavaScript.

I get time-outs on my N810. But I can use joystick up to recall the previous command, and that usually works.
I like the way it returns minimalist output, e.g. in maps.

Idle, WiFi on, power saving mode - 100 hours
GPS chip on - 11 hours
Idle, WiFi on, power saving mode OFF - 7 hours...

I bought a new aftermarket battery (couldn't find a Nokia one, and given that it failed, not sure I want to). Things seem normal now. I can't make it fail by wiggling the battery.

I was looking at the screen size issue in general. IMO the display size on a "pocket computer" such as the N8*0 can't usefully go beyond about 1024x700, otherwise either it won't fit in a vest pocket...

Try running ethereal/wireshark on your LAN. As I recall, clients can send various options
to the DHCP server, which may use them or ignore them. One such I recall is hostname.
