Had the same issue twice. Rewrote the fs to the SD card but this time did sync after dd and it's working now.

I have two noob API questions:

I see that OpenGL-ES is listed in the specs for the N900. The dev package isn't installed by default in the SDK (I did see it's available from the repository.) ...
