Still no fix for this? I'm on pr 1.3 and have gmail set up under mail for exchange. I've deleted and set up the account numerous times - will get a few good syncs, and then it will just stop syncing,...

Apparently, per page 8 here: http://nds1.nokia.com/phones/files/guides/Nokia_N9_UG_en.pdf

the cellular antennae is at the bottom of the phone, so that could likely be why the 'death grip' kills...
