How much data does Maemo mapper download per direction request? I am planning to get a 100mb/month prepaid data plan for n810 use and am wondering whether maemo mapper will eat up all my data.

I believe directions/routes are no more than a few KiloBytes.
Maps are much larger, but you only download those once.
You can download directions on a PC and copy it to your N810.

how big the map pack you download for a certain route is depends on factors like how many tiles along the route you want to see, which zoom factors you'd like and stuff like that. for a longer route it can be up to several 100 mb.

Why not download some of the routes and maps you want now with a regular internet connection (dsl or whatever) and see how much room it takes up? Also, even once you have your have access to the prepaid plan, you could use a regular connection to pre-load most of your maps and just use the prepaid plan to fill in as necessary. MM doesn't re-download what you've already stored.

oh, sounds good. I guess I'll just download a few cities at home then use the cell data for the routes.

hangster -- I presume you're talking about the AT&T GoPhone plan? Will this be a new plan that you'll be starting up? If so, I have a number with a high balance that I'm trying to sell at a discount. Might be more that you're looking for, but it could work out.
