Maemo Mapper v2.5.2 has been released to address issues with flite and localization. It is a minor bugfix release. It is available now on Maemo Mapper's Garage page, and it should be in the repositories soon.

If you still have localization issues after upgrading to v2.5.2: please try downloading and installing the .deb files directly from Maemo Mapper's Garage page. Here are direct links:

OS 2006 (mistral) and OS2007 (bora)
https://garage.maemo.org/frs/downloa...2007_armel.deb

OS 2008 (chinook, diablo)
https://garage.maemo.org/frs/downloa...2008_armel.deb

Changelist
  • Fixed bug with invocation of flite.
  • Fixed localization issues (sort of).
  • Updated Spanish translations.
  • Added ability to manually set/override AGPS with "Set GPS Position" menu item (accessibility via the tap-and-hold menu).
  • Fixed indeterminant seg fault with "Add POI" button from context menu.

I still have a big problem with Maemo Mapper which hasn't been fixed in this release. It refuses to talk to the N810's GPS. A "Searching for GPS receiver" bubbe pops up, the GPS icon shows, then the GPS icon goes away and the cycle repeats forever. It's also odd that even after installing the upgrade from the deb linked to above, the About... still shows 2.5.1.

v2.5.1 and v2.5.2 are identical. I had to increment the version number to satisfy Maemo Extras Builder, and I forgot to update the version in one place in the code. So, you may see a sprinkling of 2.5.1 vs. 2.5.2, but they're the same version, so no worries.

As for your N810 GPS issue: is anyone else experiencing this problem? Are you able to use Nokia's Maps application without issue?

Thanks for explaining the 2.5.1 vs 2.5.2 issue, it makes sense now.

Yes, all other GPS apps work fine and as expected on the N810.

Here is another person having the same problem on a 770:

He had to revert to 2.4.1 to fix the problem. I haven't tried that yet.

EDIT: Tried 2.4.1 for OS2008 and still have the same problem.

Where is a Spanish translation? Is there translated versions in other languages?

Gnuite, do you mean -- Tap & hold-> "Tap Point"-> "Set as GPS Location" or is that "Set GPS Position" only available under certain circumstances?

since updating tonight, now when I open the app. it immediately crashes and closes. n810 Diablo. It previously worked fine. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling this version and even the 2 previous versions, same problem. Now what?

The program is translated in 10 languages now. As it is the linux standard, all languages are included in the package, and which one is used is selected on runtime based on the system configuration.
If your's doesn't show translated, install the package version directly linked in the first post.

It's "Set as GPS Location" - there is no new menu item. Sorry for the confusion.

There are translations for several languages. If you don't see them, then please try downloading and installing the .deb directly (see the first post in this thread).
