I'd say with the hack,it runs better in 2007HE.
Sound issues make Skype worthless in 2008HE.

Have you applied the patch pack from "tablets-dev.nokia.com" ?

I did awhile back. Nope doesn't help. The sounds issues are noted by most of us 770 owners who've ben there and done that.
It's a flaw. But atleast we have Chinook on a 770!

I can confirm that Skype works well with:
SU-18_2007HACKER_4.2008.7-1_PR_F5_MR0_ARM.bin
i.e., the latest FIASCO image.
Also, I have both Skype and Gizmo5 co-existing. Both work perfectly on the Nokia N770.
For Skype, I installed via the instructions found on another thread here. For Gizmo5, I went to the Gizmo5 site and installed the N770 version.

The question is with what Hacker Edition will the Skype run better / not crash in N770 HardWare? OS2007HE or OS2008HE?
