Second the motion,...

It might be a useful port
Not for me, but I can imagine a number of things it may be useful for anyway.

Why not Symbian?

Now, trying to return to the subject... has anyone tried to compile latest Symbian from sources?
Good question - can be Symbian^3 compiled from the repositories?

Now we know 3 things:
1. Symbian^4 will not exist as a separate version because all the GUI / UX changes will be part of an upgrade to Symbian^3
2. Symbian^3 will be native Qt and will not have other new UI - this means it will be a good platform for developers to test their Qt applications
3. Europe invests $33 Millions in Symbian, its smartphone OS of choice:
http://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/...oice/?news=123

This means Symbian^3 will be a powerful version / BASE version - with many upgrades coming - but with no segmentation because Symbian^4 which broke the compatibility is off - which is GOOD.

Did anybody try to compile Symbian^3 on N900?

Thank you,
Architengi

S3 is made to run on nHD (640x360 I think) screens, the N900's screen is 800x480. There wouldn't be a good-looking way to fabricate that.

Would love an S3 port none the less.

i would like to be able to run some of the symbian apps available.

there are many decent apps out there which will never be ported to the n900.

nokia should help build an emulator for maemo.

Hello,
The phone Samsung i8910 is a device based on TI OMAP 3430. It runs Symbian S60v5. It is the same hardware as N900 except for the keyboard. The screen resolution is also WVGA.

Would it be feasible to u-boot a firmware from that phone from the microSD card?

I migrated from Symbian to Maemo but I would like to dual boot.
Thanks in advance for your time.

Best regards,

I could be wrong, but I'm 99% sure the i8910's resolution is 640x360. I memorized it's specs a while back because I always wanted one back then, for the camera, display, and speed. It's one of the best S1 devices.

Edit:
Type AMOLED capacitive touchscreen, 16M colors
Size 360 x 640 pixels, 3.7 inches

That's from GSMArena. Thing is, the i8910's display is 16:9, so WVGA isn't feasible for that device.

S60v5 isn't open source.

Symbian (formerly known as Symbian^3) is open source. (The OS that is on the N8)
