Are you reading the whole thread?(I'm advising you to previous page/ e.g. post 3140) I only answered ed_boners and yours question.
I didn't write it into kernel-power thread, cause Estele has already pointed at this problem (please read previous page) and I don't like to spam the thread.

The problem isn't caused permenantly (at my n900). It seems to be a curious bug which isn't affecting all n900 user. You can find a good describtion(urls) in the answer to ed_boner by me.

Just to make it clear - the "reboot bug" which is fixed in KP50 is as following:

If you have USB cable/charger connected to your n900 and try to reboot, the device does a shutdown and/or enters a mini reboot loop instead of rebooting to maemo. That happens only when USB is connected.

The bug you're discussing here is a different animal, it happens only on a couple of devices and so far there is not much useful info so one could fix it.

@freemangordon
i believe have mentioned before that the reboot problem(s)
are caused by a change from KPv 40 to v46 or v42

also KP40 was super perfect stable (no reboot problems, fast and smooth as OMAP) don't know if someone have noticed that OMAP is faster than kernel-power v42=<
at the same clock speed which is 600mhz

so if you have some time you may compaire sources (patches) betwean those versions and track down that bug

just removing changes from v42 or v46 which are not in v40
and bulding the kernel then testing would be the clean way to track down another reboot issue causer
just a suggestion though

@pierrem

well batterypatch depends on : kernel-power, kernel-power-settings

if you want to install kernel-power-bootimage then just install it after installing batterypatch there would be no problems

so there is no need to modify the depends

@ed_boner

this reboot problem might be caused by many different things
freemangordon and pali have fixed a one cause of it

i advice you to try booting OMAP kernel
if the reboot problem is gone
then there is something in KP50 conflicting with some app or so
if the reboot problem is still there
that means another app is causing it

and this discussion must continie on KP thread

hi everybody

i am new to maemo5
you are here talking about the bug king reboot problem right ?

my 2 cents

i have installed kernel power 50 with speedpatch which is really goodthe reboot bug is gone but it was in kp-49
the one freemangordon posted before

@ed_bornor

it is not speedpatch who is causing this trouble
only on the first install of it this happens
after the second reboot everything goes well

so happy with you guys thank you for keeping the development of our beloved n900

No offense, but it's not about what I want, it's about doing things the right way.

When I moved to u-boot, I removed kernel-power and installed kernel-power-bootimage
to avoid having my NAND flashed with every kernel-power update.

Batterypatch does not depend on kernel-power, it depends either on kernel-power or
kernel-power-bootimage, the difference being how users choose to load this kernel
at boot.

Therefore I ask you to reconsider my request.

pierrem i'm not offense at all
but i didn't understand ur request before

so your request is :

changing the depends of batterypatch to : kernel-power or kernel-power-bootimage ? instead of kernel-power only ?

what xterminal tells you when you install batterypatch
does it force you to install kernel-power while you don't want to ? or what ?

i have never used u-boot before
please explain more

yes

Yes of course: that's what you told the package to ask for when it is installed.

Extracted from "apt-cache show batterypatch":
Depends: dbus-scripts, kernel-power, kernel-power-modules, kernel-power-flasher, kernel-power-settings

So currently if one wants to install battery patch one have to install all the above packages.

It should be at least:
Depends: dbus-scripts, kernel-power | kernel-power-bootimage, kernel-power-modules, kernel-power-settings
