The idea of continuing the N900 is an old idea. The N9 brought with it a sleeker design - panned by most because of the lack of a hardware keyboard - that won design rewards. And they did it without any buttons on the face. One less than Apple.

To be truly disruptive, I'd love to see something totally new, not derivative of anything we have now and make that the new something we've been wanting and never knew we wanted.

Build it around hardware that will make it competitive yet advanced enough to make us not look at it and instantly know that it will be outpaced and in need of a bigger swap file in under 100 days.

The range of folks saying that 3.9 inches is big enough to folks that want a 5.5 inch monster phone/tablet (phablet?) means that we're all looking for not the same thing. I'll personally kill if I have to squint at a smaller screen in the future. I have big hands... I don't need a small phone again. I have big hands, I don't want keys the size of pins to press on while in a hurry.

But at the same time, I can see why folks say they want that. Fine. If I can still get around it, I can adapt. But to hear some of the wants... it's a franken-phone of the ugliest proportions if they listen to this entire thread. Open Pandora had too many buttons. The Nokia N9 had too little. The N900 - I found using the hardware keyboard cumbersome to use while on the move, I had to be stationary and settled to use it comfortably.

Yet... I don't mind hearing about other folks needs/wants. But to accommodate everybody's wishes and whims... it'll be a disaster.

Jolla, if you listen to anything, listen to just this. Do something amazing. Keep it open. Embrace the community. Keep the communication clear.

We will buy it... after we complain about it.
How they want to keep it open while you ask Jolla not to listening to the community? Don't you think that is contradictory? Can't the community express what it would like to see for the future device? Jolla don't have to follow them all, but at least they could take these as reference for the device they want to build.

Anyway here's my suggestion:

dual / quad core CPU
1-2GB RAM
64GB internal memory
micro-SD card expendable
E7/N950 style qwerty keyboard
4-4.3" screen
Curve screen AMOLED like N9 for the swping experience
HDMI out
USB OTG
Dual charging connector
Multi color LED (N900 functionality)
Fm-transmitter
bluetooth 4.0
Good camera with lens cover
Dedicate camera button
xenon flash+ led (808)
1.3MP front camera (I don't wana live in 0.3 era anymore)
dual stereo loud speaker

I was talking about the design. If it were up to this forum, we'd have a bigger screen version of the N900. I don't want another brick like that.

Keeping it open, embrace the community... that's about their endeavors. Don't confuse the two.

Can't the community express what it would like to see for the future device?
Yes. People can and have. I didn't say otherwise.

One not on the list:

MUTE button, i.e., button to switch to silent/vibrate profile.
It is VERY handy when you need to shut up some alert/call etc with minimum fuss.

If it is in your pocket you CANNOT flip it down.
Yes, I like and used the flip but it DOES NOT cater for all cases.

Here's the minimum I'm looking for:
- 1+ GB RAM
- Tegra2+ performance SoC
- Decent 720p screen (no AMOLED/IPS required)
- Capacitive touch
- microSD
- microUSB-HOST
- microHDMI
- Either have Stylus (Ntrig / Wacom) or have qwerty (like Droid4)
- Screen size is 4.8in (keyboard, 13mm thin) or 5.2in (slate with pen, 9mm thin)

The rest are just the usual features for smartphones.
Don't need:
- fm transmitter
- (WebTop) Dock
- 1080p display
- PureView Camera (a decent 8MP is fine)

Hey Jolla, why don't you try building it on an already successful product, lets say the NOTE (pretty please).
If it "must" be your own hardware, don't do it, follow Vivelda Tablet and just use an existing Chinese 7in tablet... the Elf2 seems to be the most bang for buck that I could find.

Snapdragon S4 is not A-15 and has much lower performance. It's a modified A9 design. Please correct poll.
