ok I tested out a new battery and it still didn't work...so it's def a software problem! 
I've never flashed N900 before....let's see how this goes....after the flash will it wipe out everything? files, programs, pics,vids,contacts etc? I don't even think I have a back up...

You might wanna try just flashing rootfs at first see if that is enough to at least let you access the stuff you wanna backup. Read the details on the wiki, and triple check everything before each step.

finally fully flashed my phone. I used this site to do so. http://www.mynokian900.com/2011/03/f...-my-nokia-n900
Also I installed that security update that was supposed to include portrait mode and some other features, but my phone is still in landscape mode?

Bootloops can be caused in various ways including deleting critical `system' files, installing programs from extras-devel repository without reading or understanding what the program is used for, etc.
Unfortuntely to cure such symptoms easily would be to reflash the device.
