The code itself will be mostly identical since it's just C++(python)/Qt.

C++ apps will need a recompile to work on whatever hardware MeeGo is running on.

Python+QT4 apps won't.

I think you are aiming at the wrong device...
better to write apps for the n8x0's

Yup...
I am also guessing that the original poster has by now either:
A- figured it out .
B- the original poster has in fact moved on to an iphone and burned his n900 by now...
C- changed his gender surgically and is now called the "white_rangerette"
or
D- is dead
