Not that I know of. Others may have a more constructive idea, but I simply switch to desktop, adjust the volume and then switch back. Simples.

I had no idea volume keys adjus font!

In xterm or osso-xterm? Should not be a big problem because to use the keys you need to grab them from x11. So comment out the code for grabbing the keys and they should work as usual.

But for you I will translate my words into source code language (see attachment) so you will understand.

But in general I don't wanted to explain step by step what you need to do to get a deb.
It is faster to deliver one.

This is a quick hack, I think you could do it better. Remove the case and some other not needed functions. However I think it does not hurt but it is ugly.

Ehmm sorry I don't get it which default, like before?
In principle these volume up/down (or zoom) keys are reserved for the system, when you would like to use them in your app you need to grab them. Osso-xterm using these keys so it grabbing the keys from x11. So what I did is commenting (the first comment) in the source code the part which grabs the keys.
When you installed my deb and want to revert it, install the original deb.
When you would like to have the keys changing between zoom/volume during runtime, it is maybe possible when you changing forth and back the window id or implementing a button which grabs and releases the keys.
Or create in the menu a zoom in and zoom out button to still be able to zoom.

I think it would be also possible to have two osso-xterm binaries and two icons.
