ip6tables?
do you have ipv6 running on your N900?

for ipv4 (the standard IP for many years now) look at
i tried genwall briefly but found it to be more trouble then it was worth (i access my N900s with FTP from computer; if needed i set the N900 up as a server / router & connect to it with Wifi from my laptop... genwall wasn't agreeable to that, of course)
unless you use a lot of public wi-fi access points it is an overkill.

Oh. sorry that letter s was drop.
I asked that because I readed somewhere that current version of Shorewall needs ip6tables anyway to run, somebody maybe can tell why.

Thank you.
I need those input to improve the application.
I can implement new functions when somebody miss something.

If I understand right you want n900 as wifi ad-hoc and connecting the ftp port on n900 and everything else is blocked?
I can implement to switch wifi to add-hoc and can explain how to configure genwall.

If somebody has specific problems, if necessary I can fix genwall or make a tutorial.
I want that this application is helpful and not making trouble.

Here is shorewall deb for you: http://cc.oulu.fi/~rantalai/maemo5/teroyk/
It is using sources from Ubuntu-12.04. It is written in perl, so no need to compile.

I don't know how to use it. Tell me if you got it installed and working. Seems it doesn't need iptables6.

hi Halftux,
sorry, this wasn't a post against you or Genwall.
it is as good a nice interface to a firewall we'll ever get for the N900
but i have to confess that i have stopped playing around with my N900s or my N9 as much as i used to until last year; well, hardly at all anymore.
i simply use my primary N900 as my mobile device
and i'm only accessing private wi-fis, thus the need to firewall my N900 is nil. i haven't heard of anyone breaking into a mobile while it is connected to 2G/3G neither, thus...
but for anyone accessing public wi-fis, Genwall makes totally sense, indeed

Hi misterc,

Don't worry I understood what you want to say.

I tried to connect to N900 ad-hoc mode with firewall enabled to access a ftp server on the N900 it works good.
You need to open port 67udp (dhcp) and additionally for dns you can open port 53udp.
I know you don't play anymore with your N900 but for the protocol I uploaded genwall 1.0.2 with ad-hoc mode.
Sorry for a little bit off topic.

By the way did somebody tried shorewall already?

I had little depends problem, but it is my problem. It seems that I have to install bc (this will be usefull itself), depconf/cdebconf, iproute first.

There is some manual for shorewall:
