Either the dev did not know what an N900 is or belived it was a new WP7 Nokia, or you got the protocol answer, where everyone matters and the game will be ported to the Apple Newton too. I don't think a dev with a right mind would pick up the Maemo platform for so few users, when even the successor platform is on its last leg.

As proved by preenv the porting of some games is not so hard, so why not get a few thousand more users (game hungry maybe too) with a day or two of coding...

Preenv is possible because the similarities of WebOS and Maemo Linux platforms. Android and iOS are completely different.
Still, porting it to Maemo could be easy enough, but if you sell something, you have to provide support for it too (like someone asks the dev, why wont the app run on his N900 when he removed and purged python), or you can make it freeware, but that is quite unrewarding for those few hundred, maybe thousand people they can get this way. I don't say I wouldn't like it, I just say you should take that letter with a grain of salt, like Nokia announcing Flash 10.2 for N900.

A game is for sure easier to port than a whole framework (that is the case with flash). And maybe the fact that rovio published Maemo angry birds before Android or Symbian edition is a hint to how difficult is to port iOS apps to maemo is.

Yep, that is the case. Also no new Angry Birds package since version 4, no Cut the rope, no Fruit Ninja, ans so on. On the other hand you can install NITDroid and have all the games...
