The video center application can use an external player and I have "mplayer" installed. I have to put the path and externalplayerapplication name into the text box under tools-->player.

What would be the path and player name for "mplayer" or how can I find it on my N800? I used file manager, but could not find the applications.

For future reference, the "which" command will tell you the path. E.g.

which mplayer

You may achieve what you want by installing dbus-switchboard which deals with mime types relating them to applications.
