Should be possible to port Nitdroid to the N900...
I'm not holding my breath, but if it does happen, I guess it will be something that just comes up with an working open beta out of the blue..

I know it's possible to do.. I just don't see why...

May as well get a cheaper Android phone that has nearly identical hardware and have android actually be optimized for it..

Of the phones that have a similar screen, I don't think any of them have a comparable hardware keyboard.

So the keyboard is worth $400 to you?

The droid has nearly identical hardware.. just a rather crappy keyboard... for much less than an N900.

But what if someone already has an N900? Is getting another phone to try Android really worth it?

Well.. that makes a little more sense.. but IIRC, the NitDroid (tablet port of Android) could not get on the official google Market (unless that was worked out) - So even a port of it for the N900 will not likely get you full android or the apps.

It would probably be better to ask a friend to let them play with their phone for a bit to see if you like it.

It wouldn't cost much...$150 for new accounts, and you get that back if you return it in 30 days, along with the contract cancellation.

Looks like someone has ported Android to the N900

Now we just need to get VMWare to release the ARM software they demoed on the N800 a while back, and you could run both (and Ubuntu-ARM and/or Mer) at the same time.
