I successfully installed maemo 5 sdk yesterday. In fact, was able to run it and played with it a bit. This morning when I tried running the command
Xephyr :2 -host-cursor -screen 800x480x16 -dpi 96 -ac -kb &
as advised in the manual, I get this error message? Anybody experience this problem? Anything I'm doing wrong?

Silly questions:
did you run it from within the scratchbox environment or out?
is it already running from yesterday?
I don't know what the X errors are about, but i'm sure someone else will chime in.

Classic example of arbitrary Nokia decision making. Couldn't just fallback to the no brainer of tagging with lat/lon if network isn't accessible, could you Nokia?

Outside scratchbox. It is not supposed to be run within the scratchbox, according to the instruction.

No. Turned of the compute yesterday after playing with it.

Neither do I... hopefully someone with much experience with be able to assist.

I saw similar messages on Ubuntu 9.04 ( my first attempt ), then I downgraded to Ubuntu 8.04 and Xephyr was running fine since then. Apparently it was some changes in 9.04, and while there is a patch, for my purposes it was easier to re-install Linux. It might be unrelated, but that's my experience.
Did you install any update overnight?

I just checked and i get exactly the same messages when i start xephyr (and i'm on 9.04/jaunty, so it does work...). The problem is elsewhere.

So is no xephyr window popping up at all when you run that? I get a xephyr window of the right size. Then i export the display of scratchbox:
export DISPLAY=:2
and start the maemo system
af-sb-init.sh start

At that point, the xephyr window shows the maemo desktop.

This thread should be in the development forum -- and the solution is also in the threads in the dev forum. ;-)

However, so you don't have to search for it -- the solution is detailed in the wiki article:

I don't think that's his problem. As i said, i get the exact same messages when i start up xephyr, and (that part, at least) always works fine.

Good to see there's a way to fix it if it is the problem though.

Frandry, I got it working. For some reasons, I had to run to code twice. Anyway, I'm glad it is now working. The only problem is that things don't come alright on the screen. The time for instance shows somethings " wdgt_va_24h_" instead of the actual time. The actual time shown when I initially ran the program few days ago. By the way, how to I include an image without a url?

Thanks Nathan but now I get this error instead.

In scratchbox I get the following error

[sbox-FREMANTLE_X86: ~] > af-sb-init.sh start
/usr/bin/af-sb-init.sh: Error, the DISPLAY environment variable is not defined.
DISPLAY must be host:display when using sbrsh in Scratchbox and
X forwarding will be used. If you use Xephyr, set DISPLAY to :N,
where 'N' is the display number passed to Xephyr in command line.
