@yodude: if I'm not mistaken, capacitive screens can tell how big of an area is being touched (and in what shape) so they can employ some sort of averaging algorithm to determine the 'intended center'. When using the iphone, I've surprised myself many times by being able to tap miniscule screen areas with my fat fingers and yet the iphone correctly can guess the intended click area accurately.

And these sort of views (bird eye view to see very small elements on screen) are usually coupled with quick and easy zoom in\out mechanism. On the iphone's browser it's a quick double tap to zoom in (to div's width) and another double tap goes back to full-document view:

(PS: The iPhone in the youtube video is the 3G, which hasn't got the Cortex A8 and bigger RAM of the 3GS)

PS : not sure about temperature limitation of capacitive screen's usage environment, but it'd be a b*tch if you have to take off your gloves in sub zero temperature to interact with a capacitive screens.

I used the N900, X6 and X3 at Noka World '09 and preferred the resistive screen of the N900.

The capacitive screen didn't have any multi-touch gestures and there was no feedback I'd touched the screen at all. At least the 0.25mm dip in a resistive screen (including the stiff, flush and sensitive N900 one) tells me whether it's worked.

Capacitive screen doesn't necessarily mean you're going to have a device which is as usable as an iPhone. Resisitive doesn't necessarily mean you can't.

Actually it was a limitation having to do with cold dry air and electrons or somesuch. I forgot about no gloves and cold glass.

@YoDude: maybe these fat capacitive crayons will work in sub zero:
