In the next few hours, I'm going to (attempt to) build a flashable rootfs "restore" image. One that you can flash to your "bricked" N900 and get your files off, and potentially fix any issues you need. This may also be useful for people who want to mess with alternate configurations.
I'm going to try to make an image that -does not- require the OptFS to work; should be easy enough, if the default OptFS files are small enough(and they are).

My question to you guys is: What applications should it have?
My current list is:
1. BackupMenu(required in order to make the image in the first place).
2. tar-gnu -for making tarballs etc, in addition to being required.
3. bootmenu-n900 - required.
4. wget - So very useful.
5. vim - Cause its awesome.
6. ???

What programs(probably command-line) would you want to be able use as a dev/advanced user?

Probably busybox - which will give most of the cmd line tools...

Well, erm, I mean in -addition- to the stuff already installed in PR1.2, which I'll use as a source.

This could be epic.. don't forget rootsh.. lol

leafpad (nano if cli), openssh and sysklogd might be good too. Don't know if sysklogd would be helpful here though.

I -already- have a rootfs that'll boot into BackupMenu without a Optfs, and provides USB mass storage access to the Optfs, SD and MyDocs. Now, its removing enough crap to make a 256meg image that'll boot the full OS.

I'm new at this. Is it going to be a "full" OS, like the one it has now, with UI and network, or a minimal text only version?

For minimal, I also vote for mc. Also, a pre-configured SMB would be great for those of us who don't have access to UBI or whatsitcalled natively and want files out. Say, share / as "root", full access with "user/pass" as user/pass. It's not like one needs security in those moments. That is, of course, assuming one has wifi.
