According to the press release (http://www.nokia.com/press/press-releases/showpressrelease?newsid=1337594)
The Nokia N900 will be available in select markets from October 2009 with an estimated retail price of EUR 500 excluding sales taxes and subsidies.
Any tips, hints, rumors on what markets would get it?
With N97 not even released on my neck of the woods I guess I'll sit and wait while playing with my N800

It's on the German website already: http://shop.nokia.de/nokia-de/default.aspx

You can preorder in Italy, too. I did. 599 € will soon be out of my account.
According to a post here on t.m.o., and who am I to dispute that august body, the n810 had 7 keyboard variants: us, fisenoda, ptes, fr, de, ru, it.
I assume the n900 will be the same.
Is it this which drives the "selected markets" thing? The only Nokia european websites I find taking pre-orders are Germany and Italy.
Assuming the US model is available on the same date, why can't they release in the UK as well?
In Forum Nokia:
Regional Availability: Europe, Middle East, North America

Since we're experct speculators, my guess is as follows:
British English, American English, Canadian French, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish, Latin American Spanish, Swedish, Russian
From the N900 language support section, they probably wouldn't do languages spoken in countries where they aren't selling, right ?

Regional Availability: Europe, Middle East, North America
That's just a region tag, not all countries are a go. For example I know the N8x0 was never sold in Hungary, even though it's in the EU and all.
British English, American English, Canadian French, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish, Latin American Spanish, Swedish, Russian
Why would it differ from the n810 seven?
us - British English, American English
fisenoda - Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, Swedish
ptes - Portuguese, Spanish, Latin American Spanish
fr - Canadian French, French French
de - German
ru - Russian
it - Italian
Just got to fit in Czech, Dutch and Polish (maybe on German keyboard)
No idea what it would be, but going by the recent 5800 and N97 launches I'd say it would include a few random European countries and somewhere in Asia. Americas launches are normally handled separately because they use different frequencies, and the Americas are traditionally weaker markets for Nokia anyway so they normally come later.
(Apple usually does launches in the US first and Europe later as Europe is a weaker market for Apple. Get your strong markets first, then move on to less sure territory...)
But that's all guesswork. Maybe Maemo's US links and the tablets' relatively strong sales in America would bring the N900 there first? That would make some sense too.
It's all so new it's unpredictable...
In any case, they usually go global within half a year of the "select markets", so if you can sit on your hands for six months you should have it wherever you are.
I'd check the availability of the N900 from the online Nokia store in Canada, but they don't have one (http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=29504).
I suspect Canadians will be getting their N900s from the States, just like we did with the N800.
Polish (maybe on German keyboard)
Spit it out :/
The only sensible fitting of Polish can be done on US version. (Z-Y, Polish has its own diacritics - don't need umlauts).
Problem with "phonification" of IT is that with old versions I could safely order from USA. Now I am not so sure if unit ordered from US can be safely used in Europe.
Nokia.pt also has it ;), nothing about the release date so far.

Well, it does say Canadian French, why would they bother with it in that case ? No Canadian English, though... :) Might be just that they don't do preorders or that the launch date is slightly off.
EDIT. Oh. You mean no Nokia store *whatsoever*. Oops.
In France it seems to be announced at 649€... more than elsewhere, as usual, but in the same time frame (October)... which would be *very* unusual :-)

I'm virtually positive that I got my N800 directly from Nokia. I remember waiting what seemed like months, but may only have been weeks, for them to appear on the Canadian website (which I had almost come to the conclusion had been abandoned).
(edit, indeed I did, I just found the shipping confirmation email "Thank you again for shopping at store.nokia.ca." [...] "for a 0276317 N800 Internet Tablet") shipped April 2007.

Actually, I got my N800 from the Canadian Nokia online store. I can remember being very glad to have that choice. It took a long time for it to show up, though...

Where's the "eh" key on the Canadian English keyboards??
Yes, the Canadian store was such a GREAT option... lol... nothing worked on it and they killed my developer discount code the one time it was accepted.
We are sorry, but there was no search result for n900 in www.nokiausa.com
You can try some of the following in order to make new search.
1. Verify the spelling is correct
2. Try a different keyword
3. Try fewer keywords
You can also examine Site Map

it does? great! if only I knew the shipping date... going back home soon and would really like to get my hands on one instead of waiting for it to reach the US.

What really sucks is that Australia will not get these devices anytime soon. We were left out of the entire 770/N800/N810 tablets. No doubt we will get left out of the N900 and I'll be forced to buy from US or EU
I do love all of these devices though and have had to import in the past :P

Available in Poland for pre-order
http://sklep.nokia.pl/nokia-pl/product.aspx?sku=10195359&culture=pl-PL
for 2499 PLN (including all taxes; E606 according to todays exchange rate - seems pretty consistent across Europe, even not in euro area).
This is the same price as N97 (with BH-102 Bluetooth headset - the only option on nokia.pl); N97 mini is selling for 1999.
There would be a great deal of irony in Australia being unable to get the Fremantle device...
Nokia officially announced that N900 is not coming to Israel. I guess we are not a "select market".

The N900 will start selling in the Czech Republic in mid-October, confirmed by Nokia Czech, among other things, in their recent presentation for Czech press and on Czech mobile sites. The UI is almost fully localized. About the Czech keyboard - from the live pictures provided by the reviewers, it appears that here in Czech we will have the same layout as the English keys have, that made me happy.

THEN it will a shame they did not put us in the SELECTED countries... damn... about buying from EU? wont it be an issue in warranty, keyboard layout, and frequency?
Both Versions should work in Australia unless your with Telstra.
All the other carriers are 900Mhz and 2100Mhz
I think id go with the EU version as it doesn't have the 850Mhz GSM like the US version has. I'm not expert would be good to hear from people who know about these things. I've looked it up and thats what I can figure so far.

Comparing the product specs on UK and USA sites, it appears they support the same frequencies. Is this correct? Do you remember where it said that the EU version doesn't support 850MHz?

So my guess is that Telstra's NextG (850MHz) will work.

I wish we didn't always get the short end. I wanted to pre-order, that's how excited I was about the device, I even added it to my cart, from the us store, and boom. Not possible. :(
The US version supports 3G on 850Mhz but I think NextG is more than just a frequency change. I could be wrong any NextGers from Australia want to correct?
the EU version supports 900Mhz on 3G instead.

Wrong. That's an online retailer with erroneous pre-release specs. Do a search here. Topic has been covered.
.
All N900 units ship with the same frequencies.
It's a quad band GSM device. It will "work" everywhere as a voice phone. Data will work at 2.5G (EDGE) speeds everywhere.
The ongoing 900, 1700 and 2100Mhz frequency discussions concern the 3G data connection.
Anyone know which of the companies that are selling the N900 actually do international shipping? NokiaUSA only has USA as available addresses to enter and Amazon won't ship the N900 to my country.
I bought the N800 from Amazon but that was 6 months after it was released, not a pre-order etc.

ExpansysHK do international shipping AFAIK. Unfortunately they've upped their pricing recently - it worked out a great deal cheaper before. There are some companies that do mail proxies but I've no experience with any.
The price for the n900 on german Amazon just dropped from 599,97 Euro to 558,98 Euro.
And yes, i ordered it :-)
Yeah the HK price just for exchange rate is over $900

Hmm..so then it's guaranteed that the n900 I would buy in the USA would work in Europe and Asia as a voice phone? But not necessarily the data connection for 3G usage? How would that work? Is it the frequency that is different per country that is set by Nokia before they ship to the country it's being sold?

YOu can take this phone anywhere in Europe and Asia and get the 2G connection for voice and data and per the 3G it depends on your carrier that which spectrum it uses. But you dont have to worry about that because I do not know any carrier in Europe and Asia using any other band than 900MHZ or the 2100MHZ. and this phone has 900/1700/2100/2100
The bold is for the USA for T-Mobile as Europe is listed only 2100 even though it uses 1900MHZ and 2100MHZ for 3G US Tmobile is listed 1700 only.
I hope that makes sense.
......for 3G usage? How would that work?
