View Full Version : Repository Notice Would be Nice
Today, I noticed that all the key repositories seemed to be down. I'm not sure if it was me or you, but I assumed it was you. (If you don't know what I mean by "you", you probably aren't "you"!)
It would be nice if there were weather vanes or something somewhere telling whether connectivity is working normally in maemo-land. That way a user could tell at a glance whether weather was their fault or maemo's fault.
I just saw a bunch of inquiries from newbies saying that they were having problems installing repositories, with "helpers" condescendingly responding that the users must be idiots. The newbies were not idiots if they were having the same problems I was having. An automatic indication somewhere would make this sort of issue clearer.

Interesting. The only threads I saw from people having problems with repositories were about the nokia ones, not maemo.org. And everything was working absolutely fine on all repsoitories for me at the time, so I assumed it wasn't a problem at this end.
Mind, I wasn't in 'testing' or 'devel'. Since those are on the moribund maemo.org servers, I would not be surprised if they crashed out now and again.
Please create a proposal (Problem+Solution) at http://maemo.org/community/brainstorm/
And read the following please
How to use Brainstorm (http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=33189)
Follow the Brainstorm rules (http://wiki.maemo.org/Brainstorm)
And everything was working absolutely fine on all repsoitories for me at the time, so I assumed it wasn't a problem at this end.
If it's like the problems I had, it may be to do with Akamai cached copies of Nokia's sites causing problems:

Thanks, Brainstorm! I withdraw my suggestion.

If mameo was alot easier to use, people would be more willing to votes, test apps, brainstorm etc!!! :)
Having the ability to create and attach a proposal from the forum post - would be useful! (Someone can brainstorm it if they want - i can never figure out the million and one logins!)
Is it just me or has brainstorm been down or unusably slow for the past week or so?
I've tried at all different times of the day but I never get a response from the server.
FYI, I just got this error when trying to access it:
Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in /mnt/netapp/pear/midcom/lib/midcom/core/privilege.php on line 457
