Hi, this is great phone with qwerty keyobard. It would be great to be able to install Sailfish on this.
Is this possible or is any way how to do it? Or plan somebody to port sailfish on this phone?
Thanks

Nope but I don't except it any time soon. It might just have been bull crap sales talk!

Well, if not jolla maybe something else like this is another possibility.

http://linuxonandroid.org/indiegogo-campaign-time-to-build-convergence/

Not exactly ubuntu edge...but...

Also official ubuntu phone might be good if it comes out.
One more question. And I know this is off topic... Is Jolla actually selling many phones? Enough to keep in existence?

well... who knows?... i surely do hope so but neither do we have exact numbers of the sold phones, nor do we know how much they need to sell to stay alive...

Yes I meant photon Q. It has installed sim card, but using some tech...it can be changed for any other sim card...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1929143

Or if you want guy from czech republic do it for you....

So Motorola Q photon is the only mobile phone with good qwerty keyboard...to be great successor of Nokia n900...but only with installed Jolla Sailfish....

Can anybody port Sailfish on this phone? I would like to do it..but I have no idea..how to do that....
How much time will it take? How much money for anybody who is able to do it?

they lowered the price shortly after the device got on Amazon, so obviously hardly anyone cares to get it for ~400€
chances are it'll be less then 200€ by the end of the year

and of course nobody is going to start manufacturing OHs neither, thus forget about a QWERTY TOH :mad:
which brings us back to...

the Photon Q
got one on eBay (w/ Sim Mod as i'm not anywhere close to Sprint net...)
looks like only very few Android devices are actually supported and even that rather badly :(

Sailfish OS for Android Devices (http://www.thejollablog.com/sailfish-os-for-android-port/)

except on the Nexus 7 hardly anything works but even there the GSM functions (all of them) don't work.
what a (bad) joke.

then again...
the only reason i use Jolla / Sailfish OS is to run a couple Android apps...
(my trustworthy N900 still is my primary... NOKIA)

run Sailfish OS on an Android device just for the sake of running a cpl Android apps with QWERTY (which, by the look of it, won't even work 'cuz... let's be honest, Jolla doesn't give a $h!t about QWERTY, do they?)

bottom line? time to move on.

The above article doesn't show the updated table of Mer/Saifish adaptations/libhybris for Android hardware :
https://wiki.merproject.org/wiki/Adaptations/libhybris
Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 have almost all the features working. But Sailfish for Nexus 5 isn't yet available to download.

Sweet I've got a Nexus 5 coming soon, if Jolla takes much longer to support my region I may have no choice but to try Sailfish for Android!
Which will be a gimped experience even once it's all working, so I hope they hurry-up & start offering their devices in my region...

if it hits E200 (~£160), then I will buy one on principle.

Huh, I had bought a Photon Q 4G with the sim mod out of interest six months ago but ended up leaving it untouched in my drawer, maybe I'll pick it up one day soon

I've got some questions about that port of Sailfish OS.

1. Does the USB OTG work?
2. Does the hardware keyboard work?
3. What are the general feelings in the use of this port? Is it ready to use it on daily routine?
4. Are there any possible future problems due to using kernel version 3.0 instead of 3.4 (as in most other ports)?

I will answer to what I have tested/know.
2. Keyboard basically works but there is no backlight and correct cursors mapping. However there is workaround for this issues (check thread at xda).
3. There are also problems with sensors, no hdmi, harbour and led notifications. For example: orientation works until you lock screen, there is no charging led indication (by design?).
Overall there are many small issues like in other ports but personally I wait/search for sensors solution and I will probably use it as my daily phone. BTW screen is much brighter compared to my old n900.
