Re: How to gain root privileges on N9?

Thanks. I don't yet have a good understanding of Aegis, but it appears to me that any privileges users have can be taken away at any time, by Nokia.

Is that a reasonably accurate summary of the...

Re: N9 16/64GB: worldwide availability & pricing

You are correct. Unfortunately, regardless of how we see it, those in charge at Nokia do not consider the N9 to be their flagship. It's more of a ghost ship.

Who wants to buy a Flying Dutchphone?...

Re: Who's still around and interested in N800/N810?

This probably isn't worth much, but I've had good results with a Lenmar replacement battery in my N810. It doesn't have the capacity of the "equivalent" Nokia battery (BP-4L), if the Nokia battery is...

Re: The End is Coming: What do we do next?

My reply to this question is as late as it is off-topic to the real subject of this thread. But there is an answer to Qole's question that needs to be noted here, even though further discussion, if...

Re: The End is Coming: What do we do next?

I've had some experience with an Android tablet and phone, and in both cases my response to the capacitive screen is, "people actually want this?"

But I've found that the Android VNC client offers...

Script to kill runaway hildon-home processes

First of all, I do not actually recommend that anyone use this. It hasn't made my phone blow up yet, but I have had to pull the battery on one occasion. For all I know, it might harm yours.

Re: [Announce] Opera Mobile 11

As a longtime Opera user on the desktop (since at least 1997), I am very happy with Opera Mobile 11 for Maemo.

The previous version did not quite work for, but I think this one will become my...

Re: Keep TMO Clean!!!

Because Nokia's astute judgment was that there was no future in tablet devices.

Re: If you dropped your n900 down the toilet - would you buy one again?

You bet. I am very definitely not a developer, but there is no other phone I would rather have.

Re: Extra Decoders Support for the N900

Someone else already mentioned having to remove the Mirror application, which has this dependency, in order to upgrade Extra Decoders. I found I also had to remove Mappero.

I was able to reinstall...

You might also try tapping the on-screen ESC button, followed by 0 (zero) for F10.

Re: What's your Maemo device's killer app?

I've got to admit, I'm very puzzled by this. It's not really a matter of choosing between the complex equation or the simple one, is it? If the single, somewhat complex equation

p = m*a/(pi*r^2)

Re: How can N900 sync time? GPS, NTP, and/or GSM?

Just in case anyone is still seeking a solution, there is now a compatible version of openntpd in Extras. Installs cleanly and is configured to run at startup, so the old workarounds are no longer...

Re: Is anyone still waiting for their N900 rebate?

If this was meant to call attention to my comment on that page, it needs to be understood that I was too hasty in calling the rebate program a scam. Some people have received their rebates, so it...

Re: MeeGo forum? (maemo.org round)

Re: Any of you guys run with your N900?

What do you do to protect the N900 from sweat while running? I've been putting mine inside a ziplock bag, and then the bagged phone inside a slightly larger ziplock bag.

Re: KOffice and rtf format

Can't help with KOffice, but one possibility might be an editor called Tea, which is available through Easy Debian.

It can read rtf documents, but cannot write them. It only saves plain text.

Re: [Announce] Pedometer Home Widget in extras-devel

Is there any chance you might integrate this with GPS? Using GPS (when available) to calibrate the distance, you could make the pedometer very accurate.

Re: How can N900 sync time? GPS, NTP, and/or GSM?

Many, many thanks! I found rdate here: http://nitapps.com/

I'm still hoping for a working ntpd to maintain clock accuracy without my intervention, but this serves my purposes very well.

Re: N900 will not allow USB OTG!

You may be correct about this. It's entirely possible that those of us who are objecting to the lack of usb host are reacting irrationally. Maybe if I carefully considered all the possible uses, I...

Re: Who finds themselves coming to these forums less after the change of image?

Yeah, I find myself coming to these forums less, because I am thoroughly bored by all the talk about how much better the old light bulb was.
