Search. This has been covered plenty of times.

Sure, I could spoonfeed you, but you won't learn anything that way.

to install rootsh go to the app manager ( i think its in extras) so enable the repo/cataglog if you havent... search for rootsh
when you get it, install it from there only...
you dont need rootsh unless you want to become root in the terminal..

You do not need rootsh to install apps.

I suggest that for now you stick to installing apps through the app manager (second screen in your menu) or the ovi store (click the blue ovi handbag).

Rootsh is only needed for installing development apps that are not yet fully grown, and may do more harm to your device than you can easily fix.

You don't need root to install apps. Just open the application manager.
Go to app menu and tap on the "More..." item. Select "Application Manager" from there.

Ok, well in your post it made it sound like you needed rootsh to install apps.. which is not true.

Rootsh is really only needed for some rather tricky things... and you need to be really sure about what you're doing before using it.

As many have said here.. it's available in the Application Manager to install. If you're running a set of commands found on these forums, copy and paste is the best way to do that... even 1 typo can be disastrous.

I assume you mean this?

If you're going to use WinSCP.. you don't need rootsh AFAIK.. just install the openssh-server on your N900. It should require you to set a root password.

Then you use WinSCP to remote to your N900 using that root password. This is still risky though, you could delete files. I'm just making sure you know to be careful. If enough people want sound tricks.. I'm sure someone will make an app for it.
