Just grab and run the auto-installer from devel. It'll remove anything unsupported and do the whole install itself. Make sure you back up anything on the SD card that you want to save though.

hi!
this is what I get after step 3 (i have a 4gb sandisk micro sd hc 4 and used 2100 as <YOUR NUMBER IN MB>):

Checking that no-one is using this disk right now ...
OK

Disk /dev/mmcblk1: 124368 cylinders, 4 heads, 16 sectors/track
Old situation:
Units = mebibytes of 1048576 bytes, blocks of 1024 bytes, counting from 0

Device Boot Start End MiB #blocks Id System
/dev/mmcblk1p1 0+ 3886- 3887- 3979768 b W95 FAT32
/dev/mmcblk1p2 0 - 0 0 0 Empty
/dev/mmcblk1p3 0 - 0 0 0 Empty
/dev/mmcblk1p4 0 - 0 0 0 Empty
New situation:
Units = mebibytes of 1048576 bytes, blocks of 1024 bytes, counting from 0

Device Boot Start End MiB #blocks Id System
/dev/mmcblk1p1 0+ 2099 2100- 2150399+ c W95 FAT32 (LBA)
/dev/mmcblk1p2 2100 3886- 1787- 1829376 83 Linux
/dev/mmcblk1p3 0 - 0 0 0 Empty
/dev/mmcblk1p4 0 - 0 0 0 Empty
Warning: no primary partition is marked bootable (active)
This does not matter for LILO, but the DOS MBR will not boot this disk.
Successfully wrote the new partition table

Re-reading the partition table ...

If you created or changed a DOS partition, /dev/foo7, say, then use dd(1)
to zero the first 512 bytes: dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/foo7 bs=512 count=1
(See fdisk(8).)
/home/user #

also, the yellow error message bar appears telling me format is not supported.

what should i do?
thank you!

You doing fine, just reboot, xterm, root, nitdroid and wait for 8min.

Reboot before continue is just my habbit of doing thing, I think it may NOT be all that necessary.

I installed NitDroid on my N900 using autoinstaller but there were some errors. When I rebooted the menu cam up and I could boot successfully into Android but now when I restart and select 0 to boot maemo it shows:

Error: Can't flash kernel, required files not found

I can still boot into NitDroid.

Please help, I need to flash the maemo kernel back so that I can boot maemo to make phone calls.

Thanks

That error log appears to relate to some kinda game, not NITDroid so not much I can advise you with that.

See this thread http://forum.nitdroid.com/index.php?topic=343.0 to enable logging and provide the info from these please.

Try pressing B and see if that allows you into Maemo. If not, you need to re-flash.

Word of advice, error messages are there to tell you something went wrong. It's generally best to find out what the cause is before you carry on doing things that could potentially brick your phone.
