If all the extra energy consumption would be because higher data processing, there would be more heat produced.
n900 produce more heat than old monochrome voice call only nokia phone
did 8110 play mp4 video ? no so no power needed
2400 mAh per day = 0.1A per hour times 3,7 V = 0.37 W per hour . i think your hand can heat the n900 more than that
so what is more dangerous to skin when make a call on the beach ? n900 or the sun with 500 W /square meter intensity at sea level

I'm pretty sure my N900 heats up it's surrounding way more than my first mobile, it was one of those with a screen not much better than a cheap digital wristwatch and multicolored replaceable faceplates; but the way the heat is made isn't much different from how incadescent lightbulbs make heat, it simply doesn't got a single miligram of room temperature superconductor wiring in it :P

first law always respected

n900 consume electricity and make electromagnetic radiation and no mechanical work* at thermal equilibrium
EMR= radio waves, microwaves, infrared radiation, visible light
because n900 don't stay in vacuum some heat percent is lost by conduction or convection
if speakers are active this mechanical work must take in consideration

So, to quote from earlier respond...

Is that a good 'protection'. I recently bought a C6-01 and it heats up faster than our N900.

Talking about unwanted EM radiation, do you know if anyone has ever analyzed how succeptible to TEMPEST data leaks the N900 is?

yes the metallic sheet is a good emr protection and about heat ... nobody die form phone's heat. not shure from excesive heat from a phone on fire

all leaks goes to sewerage, google sewerage.

The direct heat most likely won't be a problem, but the radiation.
The radiation is not ionizing, but yet it is a new phenomena to natural being. People and animals are used to by evolution to tolerate sun light, but not having 1800 MHz radiator 1 inch away constantly. There may be surprises. Further medical studies are needed to be made until one can be sure.

sure . on 1 million humans perfect DNA, perfect fed, extremely well isolated from any electromagnetic waves should be enough to make an accurate statistics

Actually 0.37 W per every second, don't you think?

2400 mAh / 24h * 3.7V = 0.37 VA = 0.37 W
Which would mean the battery is drained 100 mA in average constantly.
(Check: 100mA * 24 h * 60 * 60 / (60 * 60) = 2400 mAh)

The worst case scenario; all that energy would be radiated out in 500 - 3000 Mhz area (GSM,UMTS,BT,WLAN). The maximum output power is limited to 2W, so daily it would radiate 4h 26min @ 2W.

Continuing the worst case scenario, all that 32 kJ radiation daily would be absorbed by my tissues. Should I worry?

(The worse than the worst case scenario:
If all that energy (32 kJ - one day) would be converted to X-rays, I (90kg) would get about 355 Gy, which would kill me.)

Probably they dies, but they are not going to make you know.
