Well are you using a bluetooth dongle or bluetooth adapter for this purpose or are you using a laptop which has inbuilt bluetooth?

In current versions of windows, it's as simple as right-clicking the bluetooth icon in your toolbar if you haven't removed it, and clicking "send file".
Alternatively, right-click the file itself within explorer, send to > bluetooth device.
In both instances, you then simply select your N900 from the list of paired devices, then the N900 will ask you if you want to receive a file view bluetooth - Accept it, and the transfer starts.

or you could do it the hard way pairing it up as Personal Area Network then setup IP on both side there you can share files like you do with normal LANed PCs.

If you are using Ubuntu, right click on file and select 'Send to' / Bluetooth, select device and send.

I can't seem to send it

Whenever I right click on the file, send>n900,

it shows the transfer animation but then later on says 'sending of file failed'

how do i solve this?
