Trying to reinstall hildon-desktop, but it's telling me it's not available:

/home/user # apt-get install --reinstall hildon-desktop
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Package hildon-desktop is not available, but is referred to by another
package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
E: Package hildon-desktop has no installation candidate

Strangest part is that it shows as available when I search the apt-cache:

/home/user # apt-cache search hild|grep desk
hildon-desktop - Hildon desktop for Fremantle

What's up with that??

You probably haven't enabled all the standart maemo repositories, have you?

That's what I thought too, but my enabled repositories are what inform an apt-cache search, right? And an apt-cache search shows hildon-desktop as available.

How can a package show up on an apt-cache search, but not in an apt-get install?

Dunno. Download it via the web:
http://maemo.org/packages/package_in...2.2.140-1+0m5/
And install it manually.

Got it. I forgot that I had pinned hildon-desktop in /etc/apt/preferences.

Duh...
