Re: N900 overclock tests/results and new versions

One word of warning to those experiencing instability: if you are triggering writes to the internal OneNAND memory (the one where most of the system files live), you are better off with reflashing...

Re: Big announcement coming soon from T-Mobile ; Project Black to shake things up?

It's not only about heat. It's about the operating voltage. The value required damages the silicon. Of course the expected lifetime of the device is where the discussion should focus.

Which one of...

Re: Big announcement coming soon from T-Mobile ; Project Black to shake things up?

I want to clarify things: in the talk I have preferred to warn people against the worst case scenario - which can well happen.

Damage to the silicon happens when the system is forced to run in...

Re: TV Out

Now I can finally say that i've been doing it for months and it rocks.
You can have all the data you need in your pocket _and_ show it to others whenever it's needed.

Of course the cable is...

Re: Maemo 6 to get multitouch& gestures with Qt 4.6

But if the price to pay is to give up stylus and resolution, i'm not sure I'm ready for it.

Re: Maemo 6 to get multitouch& gestures with Qt 4.6

I really fail to understand what's so cool about multitouch

ok, maybe in the future we'll have it, then what?

capacitive multitouch has lower resolution than resistive and anyway the screen is...

Re: Concept: battery widget

The sad truth is that the power consumption varies so much depending on the use case that it's not really reasonable (imho) to give any estimate about residual use time.

What can be given -...

Re: N900 specs revealed

Hell, no! You are victim of the marketing misinformation campaign and cannot even recognize a genuine leak when you see one.

Re: How to start programming?

One thing that should not be forgotten is that with Xterm running on the NIT, the experience can be quite similar to using a PC, so I think that even doing it the old way, taking the K&R "C...

Re: Where is Nokia - no announcement no product - still in hibernation

I would recommend you to follow the discussion on the linux-pm mailing list about this subject.

Android folks are coming up with similar arguments but so far have had little success.

Re: Where is Nokia - no announcement no product - still in hibernation

I don't know what you mean. The behavior referred to as softpoweroff in this thread has _never_ been planned to be delivered to the final user, since it was considered to be inferior and a lame...

Re: Where is Nokia - no announcement no product - still in hibernation

Because of this feature I preferred a prototype with only 4GB instead of the special 8GB final version we were given to celebrate the launch.

Re: Where is Nokia - no announcement no product - still in hibernation

Well, you first said that the battery drain is the most annoying part of the tablets, now that it is messed up for the problem happening with just 6 libs, or without those and only one other package...

Re: Where is Nokia - no announcement no product - still in hibernation

Actually my great plan is to fix that. Sort of.

I cannot say more to not spoil the surprise.

And anyway some last minute hw / mechanics change might still ruin the attempt, like it happened...

Re: Where is Nokia - no announcement no product - still in hibernation

So what? Even 1 library/daemon is enough, if it is crappy code.

Re: maemo.org Bugzilla 2008 statistics (1)

The funny (not) thing here is that the development is already more open than bugzilla itself. At least for what concerns the kernel.
OTOH the info about the HW is closed.

Till the service point...

Re: maemo.org Bugzilla 2008 statistics (1)

Ok, I didn't want to inspire generic disappointment: as GA wrote, certain parts are more likely to be properly handled with Bugzilla, other aren't.
When I speak I tend to refer to my POV, which is...

Re: How to install Windows Mobile on N810?

Symbian would be a much more realistic bet. In the end it's almost the same HW as a phone.

Something that Sony was showcasing a couple of years ago is a bit on that line, although more radical: create a pre-initialised image to load at boot, just like if the device was doing a restore...

Finally Pandora is starting to be supported in the linux-omap kernel, which means that eventually (don't hold your breath) it will be possible to download and compile a kernel from kernel.org, rather...
