Sounds like you've got a corrupt status file. The simplest option is to try using the last backup version:

root
cd /var/lib/dpkg
mv status status.bkup
mv status-old status
apt-get -f install
...

Hmm if you was trying to hack WPA you have to do it with a dictionary attack
but
this attack is known as useless
and it takes too much time specially on n900 (600mhz)

To be honest, no. To decrypt a WPA would take a loooooong time from what I have read. We are talking months on a computer, on a phone, years!

You need to open it with a txt editor. Leafpad is quite user friendly so

sudo gainroot
apt-get install leafpad

Let it install then exit down to user and open etter.conf with leafpad.

exit...
