After updating to 1.2 i didn't have to restart my N9 not even once!!!!!!

You have to go to CONFIGURATIONS > EMAIL > Then you'll see the 3rd item "topics - manage/ organize msgs as topics" (?). Sorry but mine is in Portuguese...

Actually I didn't need to try your fix. I simply changed the settings to "connected on background" and to my surprise it's okay!!!!!
