This sim card is expired for outgoing calls, but still valid for accepting calls. After I have replaced it with my regular sim, at the boot up I did get a dialog about setting the time, but no OVI...

Re: PR1.2 automatically sends SMS, registers phone with My Nokia. Privacy breach?

Would you mind if your N900 after the upgrade started mass sending of premium SMSes leaving you with a bill of several thousand Euro?

Re: n900 sends SMS without my permission

I am afraid it will. I think that removing /usr/bin/cherry and its control panel libraries, as stated in one of the previous posts, would prevent this, but I am not sure, if this SMS is not buffered...

Re: PR1.2 automatically sends SMS, registers phone with My Nokia. Privacy breach?

I have booted the phone with a prepaid simcard with a negative balance, the .cherry_state file has been created. Then I have put in my regular simcard and an sms has been sent to Nokia. So I think it...

Re: PR1.2 Privacy breach?

Using N900 is probably against the Terms of Service of most cell providers in Poland, which generally forbid using their SIM cards for the traffic between the machines.

Edit: not most, but there...

Re: PR1.2 Privacy breach?

I have unpacked the terms and it really says, that the SMS will be billed according to the operators tariff. However, it does not say, to which number the SMS is sent, which does not allow me to tell...

Re: PR1.2 Privacy breach?

This is not an international SMS. It is local.

Re: N900 Post PR 1.2 Update what do you think?

Is sends an SMS to Nokia after the update all by itself. I do not like it.

Re: PR1.2 - For what is "My Nokia" useful?

It does not show up in the conversations, but it does show up in my billing.

Re: PR1.2 - For what is "My Nokia" useful?

It did cost me - it has sent an SMS to Nokia for which I had to pay for. I do not remember reading about it in any EULA.

Re: n900 sends SMS without my permission

Choosing this option actually sends an SMS to Nokia.
Will it prevent sending anything to Nokia after the next reflash?

n900 sends SMS without my permission

After I have reflashed my n900 to PR1.2, n900 has sent an SMS to Nokia. This is a privacy violation. I do not remember agreeing to that and I do not want Nokia to be informed every time I upgrade my...

Re: Battery does not charge from AC mains charger, but works from PC USB

Make sure, that your chargers have the data pins shorted together. Otherwise, n900 will not charge.

Re: Is changing IMEI possible?

The GSM network knows the simcard which has been inserted in the phone with the particular IMEI during every call. So, even if you change the simcard they can still tell, that this is the phone which...

Re: Is changing IMEI possible?

I have seen IMEI, written backwards, in the mtd1 (config) partition. It is probably protected by a digital signature.

Re: Overclock the N900?

Without SmartReflex enabled, isn't the processor always operating at the highest voltage (OPP5)?

Re: How is 'bricked' possible on the N900?

I think the only way to "brick" the device is to overwrite the config partition (mtd1). The IMEI and WLAN MAC are stored there and probably cryptographically signed.

If the 'u' key does not work,...

Re: Problems with N900 USB port becoming broken / loose and resulting warranty & repair issues

If the pads peel off, there is nothing the connector can be soldered to, so there is no way to do the repair right.
