With the previous version you could use the application without having a Twitter account. Now all you get starting the app is Sign in or register. I don't have a twitter account as I just like to read it.

No big loss for me personally, as I found the mobile web-site version better for my needs anyway.
I have an account I don't use at all if you want it....

Don't be such a lazy guy and make yourself one! It's free for God's sake!!

I think it takes more effort to login, write and post in this forum than taking a moment to register in Tweeter lol

Well doh, I'm just a regular old grumpy guy. I'm not going to register to any of these new suspicious social media thingies unless I see good reason to.

You want to read it. There goes your reason, as you said.

"Suspicious"? Well, then make an account with fake data and a secondary email adress and you're secure

I want to read it too, but will not register an account for it. Not even a fake one. Even fake accounts leak real data.

With this update, can this twitter app, now that it is utterly useless, be apt-get purged without bringing down the entire device and without hacking the dpkg DB?

Regarding the need for an account before being able to use the app, its NOT the developer's fault but Twitter's:

API v1:
Requires Authentication? No

API v1.1:
Authentication Required

A huge thanks goes out to the developer of the latest update, Vitaly Repin, for pushing this thru...

All the guys at Accenture who have worked under trying circumstances to release PR1.3 and then this for us; a huge thanks to all of you!

Keep in mind that when 1.0 API is shut down, non-updated twitter application will stop to work as it used 1.0 version of API. And as mentioned in the comment above 1.1 API requires user to be authenticated in order to retrieve the trends.

Indeed, & to the miniscule internal (maintenance) team that remains!
