Hey, this is sophism (as opposed to meritocracy ) Going this way, I could ask You why people can perform every upgrade via fapman, and don't have any issues. Not to mention, that I haven't said "it's identical" - I've said that it is also frontend for apt.

AFAIK, the rule of thumb is that person stating something - like You telling us, that we should use HAM, no FAM, for CSSU updates - should backup with arguments, if requested (if not in original post). Instead, You're basically telling me GTFO, using longer sentence.

Anyway, if You're not willing to use hard arguments, I'm not going to continue this topic further - I'll check how it develops, and give a note here for others, if I come to conclusion, that FAM indeed does something wrong, while updating CSSU.

Well, there's a long record of fapman messing up things, you can find the reports via google if you'd bother to search, I'm not going to do this work for you. HAM code is open, so your claim fapman is better in that regard is plain wrong. And finally CSSU update gets tested under HAM only, not under apt-get and for sure not under fapman, and you know pretty good that "WFM" is not a valid proof for "it doesn't have the potential to cause trouble". Now you can take these statements as whatever you like, I'm not going into a dogfight about philosophy and I'm also not claiming you insulted me by telling I said "GTFO". I'll simply ignore you on this

btw:
You: I get confusing results regarding update-able pks, when using fapman. What shall I do?
Me : CSSU is meant to get updated via HAM
You: That's FUD. Deliver technical reasoning!
Me : Sorry, I'm not going to do this. If you think fapman is OK then it's up to you to prove that.
You: Duh, did you say "GTFO"?

:-( Think about it!

@Estel...

yes i do agree upgrading/installing sfuff to our beloved device using FAM is far more better than HAM...i use it to install/upgrade most of my stuff using it...

@joerg_rw...

yes you maybe right FAM sometime do messing up thing on our device...it will only do that if you enable....

Code:
autoremove unneded (automatically installed) packages
also HAM is too slow...FAM can cut time in haft for updating catalog, upgrading & installing stuff...

as for me...if it concerning installing fresh/upgrading stuff than FAM will be my choice....if upgrading stuff than is hidden (all packages in FAM) then x-term will be my best choice cause in x-term we can look closer at the installing log for error/missing/umet while upgrading hidden stuff...

in CSSU case...i always use x-term for that...

i wish some one can help me with my issu

when i want to update through HAM
is says to me
missing applications : maemosec-certman-applet
libmaemosec-certan-applet0

i can figure that these packages are in the new pr1.3.1
also they are at nokia repos

but the problem while enalbing nokia repo
i always get 403 in xterm :

Err https://downloads.maemo.nokia.com ./ Packages
The requested URL returned error: 403

etc.....

my question is
how can i use proxy or how can i make HAM uses TOR (if installed)

thanks in advance

I'd guess that's the result of messing with Nokia repository settings via xterm and apt. First instance Nokia repos are not meant to get disabled, though funny enough you can disable them in HAM (but not delete).

I don't know of any way to make HAM use a proxy or TOR

maybe this helps, dunno...
Code:
IroN900:~# cat /etc/apt/sources.list.d/hildon-application-manager.list

deb https://downloads.maemo.nokia.com/fremantle1.2/ovi/ ./
deb http://repository.maemo.org/extras/ fremantle-1.3 free non-free

Hardly, anyway you could try and use another DNS-server to point you to another one of Nokia's server farm, sometimes one or some of those servers are out of order and tricking load balancing to get another IP for the URL helps.
