N900. How to change the UI, move "Reject" button from the bottom to the top?
Does anyone know how to move "Reject" button from the bottom to the top of the screen during incoming call?
I've tired to reject calls pressing "Reject" instead of "Answer" button, my fingers are not perfect:) |
Re: N900. How to change the UI, move "Reject" button from the bottom to the top?
ROFL :) All my friends are laughing at me, because it happens to me all to often.
"Nice phone, but it would be great if you learn to accept a call!" |
Re: N900. How to change the UI, move "Reject" button from the bottom to the top?
Whoever designed this must have never used a touchscreen before...

1. Return the phone (or sell it) 2. Learn how to code and re-write the Call.ui screen(s) 3. Quit your whining and learn to live with it. It's easy to criticize, not so easy to make the necessary changes yourself. I don't mean to come across as a dick, but damn! Even if someone were to make the most technologically, user friendly PERFECT device, someone would always find a fault with it. |
Re: N900. How to change the UI, move "Reject" button from the bottom to the top?
That one guy,
But probably on this one quite many agree that accidental rejecting is problem for them. Any bugzilla or brainstorm entry for this? |
Re: N900. How to change the UI, move "Reject" button from the bottom to the top?
Hey, give the guy a break! I agree that whiners aren't welcome, but he really is suggesting an improvement along with the complaint, not just complaining. Coders need to hear from users to know what users need!

Re: N900. How to change the UI, move "Reject" button from the bottom to the top?
I don't think that's called for... the point of these forums is to help and build a stronger community. The reality of this phone is that potentially only a very small percentage of users who own it will have the necessary skills to create software or do advanced things like this.
The phone is, much as I love it, far from perfect and for all the wonderful hidden little features and functions it does have - the phone functions are actually quite problematic. It's not really right to shut people down like that when they ask an innocent question - it's certainly not whining. How are people supposed to learn if they can't ask anything? It's also possible that ZeeD is a programmer and just wondered if there was some easy way of changing layout, rather than reinventing the wheel and reprogramming something for all you know... As for the actual question, I'm afraid I don't know... I'm new to this myself :) |

Re: N900. How to change the UI, move "Reject" button from the bottom to the top?
Ok, but ZeeD asking here is really no different to you asking a developer to add extra sound events to the system sounds manager (that it does not handle by default). The only real difference is that you knew how to contact a developer and ZeeD (perhaps) didn't.
Just remember, it takes a lot fewer keystrokes and less effort to say nothing than it does to berate someone on a forum... That's all I'm saying on the matter - I don't want to overrun the thread with things that are not the answer to the original question (any more than has already been done). :) |

This has been discussed and submitted to Nokia. WONTFIX for Fremantle.
You can still go to bugzilla and vote, if enough people nudge they'll *maybe) fix it. There are several suggestions, such as don't unlock phone, etc. |

It never happened to me that I pressed the wrong button by accident, but still this layout forces me to be more careful than I would like. When in a hurry or not looking precisely at the screen chances are big that you press the wrong button, or touch it with a part of your finger while trying to press the other button. IMHO this layout is not right for a touchscreen device. |

I wonder how many votes they need. Maybe we are stepping on someone's toes :P |

Here is a brainstorm link for voting:

Re: N900. How to change the UI, move "Reject" button from the bottom to the top?
I don't think the sollutions offered in the brainstorm would fix it properly. A better sollution was put forth in the bug discussion to use a single slider with the starting point being in the middle, swiping left to end and right to accept, this only if the phone is locked. If it isn't then the normal buttons would show.
This, IMO, is how it should be. |
Re: N900. How to change the UI, move "Reject" button from the bottom to the top?
Then add said solution to the brainstorm, that's what such a tool is for.

Re: N900. How to change the UI, move "Reject" button from the bottom to the top?
This problem with accidently answered or rejected calls belongs not only to the phone part of the N900.
Something like this happens also with alarms and alearts from the calendar and other applications. I created a Brainstorm some Days ago for this annoying problems. It points to all the issues we have when the N900 unlocks itself in the pocket. Here you can find it: Brainstorm and Talk - Please feel free to vote for it or add your own solutions. :) |
Re: N900. How to change the UI, move "Reject" button from the bottom to the top?
Helmuth, I know about your Brainstorm and have voted on this but as you know Nokia WONTFIX it:(
I thought may be Nokia will change buttons position at least? And add this option as a checkbox in, for example, "Settings -> Phone -> User interface -> Put Reject button on the top in portrait mode during incoming call" AND/OR "Settings -> Phone -> User interface -> Split Reject and Answer buttons vertically in portrait mode during incoming call" IMHO, it's a little bit easy to rearrange Answer and Reject buttons than add swipe options and Nokia will compromise to change UI for incoming call, "split/rearrange buttons". |
Re: N900. How to change the UI, move "Reject" button from the bottom to the top?
I have the same problem.
I recommend to adopt the "N97 like swipe to unlock". |

Re: N900. How to change the UI, move "Reject" button from the bottom to the top?
I had started a thread like this one back in september:
http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=32060 I think there are some images on the N97 slide to answer implementation Personnaly I'd prefer the HTC design, there's a screenshot in the first post |

http://static.maemo.org/static/2/25c..._call-edit.png I would prefer to slide to the right to (go forward) to answer the call or backward to cancel. The HTC design goes the other way. The common mobiles have the green answer button on the left. What would you prefer? The HTC way? Why is the green answer button on the most mobile phones and handsets on the left side? I don't know. :( |
Re: N900. How to change the UI, move "Reject" button from the bottom to the top?
Putting these already hard-to-select functions on one slide would be a bit mad. Maybe you could push picture of caller to answer. Reject and volume could be beneath it.

Re: N900. How to change the UI, move "Reject" button from the bottom to the top?
Did anyone come up with a solution for this?
I'm sorta having the same problem, and I'm a girl with small fingers :p It's very annoying.. |
Re: N900. How to change the UI, move "Reject" button from the bottom to the top?
At the moment, is there a solution for this bug? My phone keeps rejecting calls accidentally all the time because the touchscreen is sensitive when it is in my bag...

Re: N900. How to change the UI, move "Reject" button from the bottom to the top?
How about clockwise swirly to answer and anti-clockwise swirly to dismiss/end as an option ? ("swirly" is how i call the zoom gesture on microB)

Forget about changing UI, Nokia has already forgotten about users with such requests:(
