Re: N900 Subsidized in US, but by who..?
At the moment, since T-Mob does not subsdize the N900, the best plan is Even More + 750 minute talk family plan, $50/month, plus the additional smartphone data, at $25/month, for a total of $75.

Re: Can someone tell me why N900 and not Android?
Bugelrex made good points about software, so I'm going to hit this from the hardware angle, since the OP obviously meant Droid v N900.
In many ways, Motorola designed a nicer piece of hardware...

Re: Ovi Maps Fail
At the moment, Google Maps on Mobile doesn't show any ads. I'm sure that might change at some point, but I doubt that Google will ever take up huge amounts of mobile screen space with their apps. ...

Re: Ovi Maps Fail
Luckily, unlike Garmin and Tom-Tom, all Nokia needs to do is to release free turn-by-turn Ovi Maps for its Maemo phones. Or perhaps a one-time fee to download the maps (which Google won't let you...

Re: Ovi Maps Fail
Since Verizon is launching Android 2.0 on the Droid, this is less of an issue. I'm constantly amazed when I travel in the boonies and still have Verizon signal.
What would be ideal is the...

Re: Ovi Maps Fail
The latest version announcement said that Google Maps has the ability to cache some panels, but I grant you that it's not the equivalent of having the maps stored on the device.
And, since the US...

Re: Ovi Maps Fail
Google has released and continues to update Maps for BlackBerry, Symbian, WM and iPhone. Google's business model is advertising, not selling software or hardware, so if there are enough eyeballs on...

Ovi Maps Fail
A Maemo developer got lost and posted his negative experience with the N900's Ovi Maps on his blog (http://mer-l-in.blogspot.com/2009/10/ovi-maps-really-is-this-best-we-can-do.html) It isn't pretty:...

Re: Push Email?
Thanks for all the responses, but has anyone actually used Nokia Messaging and push on a N900. I realize that the docs say that it's supported, but I haven't seen a review showing that.

Re: You see how they market Droid??
Let's face it - the N900 caused a lot of excitement in the tech press, but there's little or no interest from the general public because it hasn't hit their radar. Whereas my non-tech friends know...

Re: N900 function compared to G1
I agree on the memory/java issue. Rumor has it that Sholes has the same processor and video acceleration as the N900, but we'll have to see if/how that's utilized by Android 2.0 (which is rumored to...

Re: N900 function compared to G1
That's definitely "in theory". In practice, a desktop app is going to need a lot of work before it will be a polished, native app.
Just expand on my point above (that there will be some pain...

Rushmore, I'm in a similar spot as you: Android vs N900. The difference is that I don't own an Android device at the moment.
There are a lot of good Android phones coming out soon (Motorola...

One of the recent previews (I think it was the one on my-symbian) mentioned that part of the reason for the perceived slowness of the N900 browser was that it loads stuff like Flash animation.
I...

Re: N900 vs Blackberry User Experience Questions
I think you're right about this. Nokia's N900 launch page shows Yahoo as one of the supported services, and the only way I can think they'd do that is Ovi Mail, because Yahoo does not support IMAP...
