size of wiki pages is limited, it won't hold the amount of text even a ruthless triage of posts in this thread would produce. Also a wiki page is not exactly ideal to hold tmo threads. Transcription of dialogs between inquirers and Neo team into a e.g. FAQ style wikipage is even more work and thus even less likely to happen any time soon. All help appreciated on that, I happily will proofread and "fix" any such wiki page
See
http://wiki.maemo.org/Neo900 and
http://wiki.maemo.org/Neo900/FAQ and
http://wiki.maemo.org/Neo900/Neo900_...,_a_comparison the latter should be pretty simple to set up for some wiki-wizard, I'll fill in resp correct the Neo900 details that differ

some "private mails" forwarded:
(authors' names known to the editorial staff ;-D)
I just wanted to tell you that the Neo900 is the phone I've been dreaming about for years! I didn't buy GTA04 based phone in the past because of the tiny resistive touchscreen, Replicant OS doesn't run on it yet, I wanted N900 form factor (slide out query keyboard), etc.

Will the touch screen support pinch to zoom in OS's that support it? Also, I'm concerned about the touch sensitivity of resistive touch screens.

Do you have any idea when I'll be able to buy a complete Neo900? Six months? One year? Three years? I'd like to register a pre-order, but don't want to pay until you are ready to manufacturer and ship.

Thanks,
R.
A: "multi"-touch on Neo900 not yet clear, *maybe* we provide the hw-means to support it. The N900 digitizer is exceptionally sensitive, completely different league to GTA02. It will probably take at least 6 months until first Neo900 batch ready to ship, but we plan to set up a preorder portal where you can place your order and confirm it with a ~10% down payment.

What a terrific project!

Please add me to your mail list to be notified as soon as this becomes
available. I will gladly buy one (or two or three!).. anything to extent
the life of my favorite Linux tablet/phone and avoid iOS and Android.

Sincerely,
F.
A: no such dedicated ML yet. I'll let you know as soon as we create one.

/j

The ebay sourced ones though mostly aren't. This one http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nokia-N900-T...torefresh=true seems almost as good (if not exactly the same) with original N900 digitizer, but it's quite expensive.

(Can't compare if it is exactly like the original as the original tends to get softer after long use, and I don't have a new N900)

Thanks for the heads-up and welcome to the exciting world (err hell) of component sourcing :-)

I'd just like to say that I'm in. I use my N900 as my primary phone still as it was incredible value to buy (quite recently) - so many projects and years of support backed up in these forums!

Even so, the device lags a bit now and hopefully we'll see some traction here and fix that!

Anyway, I'm really just posting this so I'm subscribed to thread.

First off props to op for undertaking such an ambitious project. I wish you success, I would buy anything for a good qwerty phone and I am definitely interested in this phone. Few questions:

Is n900 the best choice as far as the hardware goes?
Phones such as n97, e7 and n950 feature a much bettee industrial design and qwerty. What I always disliked about n900 was the slide out design and the bulkiness. It was just too thick. I would pay anything for a phone say with n97:s design it featured better specs and OS.

Is what you are doing legal btw ?

Well, a lot of people think N950 ID is worse than N900, particularly opening the kbd is extremely clumsy. Anyway we had no choice so this is a moot point.
