I have a similar issue, reflashed 3 or 4 times now:

The installation works fine, it reboots fine and I think everything works, but then after one or two more reboots, it doesn't boot up anymore:
  • Nokia logo shows up
  • Recovery Console shows up
  • When I try to boot, it says booting from nand... as usually
  • a black screen appears and doesn't go away
  • I guess it gets stuck somewhere before X, at least the device doesn't show up in wlan
  • all I can do is reboot

EDIT: I've flashed, then installed the kernel-power, busybox-power package and then directly done the CSSU-Thumb upgrade. If you want to, I can give you a full list of installed packages.

Note: I haven't really changed anything during the reboots, that's the strange thing.

How can I debug this? I'd like to boot while having SSH running to read all the messages, but I get stuck because dbus doesn't run (I think I'm not repoducing the boot process right)

Also is there a thumb repo, which is based on stable instead of testing?

Thanks to everyone who works on the thumb repo

EDIT: Well... I've left the phone alone for a night and as I was about to flash the framebuffer enabled kernel suggested by pali, I noticed that it has turned on (by itself)? o_O

Anyway, it seems to boot fine now and I _currently_ can't reproduce this. but when I can, I'll try out that kernel and report more

Use kernel zimage with compiled framebuffer module:
http://mohammadag.xceleo.org/public/...s/framebuffer/

If there is some problem with booting, you will see error output on display.

I don't know whether it is related but I have had trouble booting up while charging when using u-boot, since the days of uboot-pr13. It says starting kernel and then reboots (or shuts down)

now that i got a little android phone i am only normally going to use for speed measure on e-bikes etc i have a backup, and my N900 seriously needs to be reinstalled.

SO:
does post #1 still count, i just want to start over with the newest cssu

right now im using 2.6.28.10-cssu3 on armv7l - 21.2011.38-1Tmaemo4-thumb14

it's been so long since last time that i don't even have any new repos or anything, haven't upgraded in freakin months, maybe even a year!!!

And would be nice to get the new benefits of what has happened since thumb14

Yep, the OP is still valid.

I'd recommend a reflash to start on a clean base, just in case.

If this is not an option, you'll have to tweak the script you can find in the first post (the link is in the middle of a red bold text) to match the versions of the packages currently in the -thumb repo.

Yep, me too.
But as I am so much used to my workaround (push power button, see kernel loading message, then -and only then- plug in charger), that I do not know if this 'issue' (coming from u-uboot or kp or combination?) is still present with latest u-boot from pali!?

But I am afraid yes, see kp shutdown/reboot vice versa prob.

Quick question - does either CSSU-Thumb or the latest kernel power incorporate the fmtxd that removed the broadcast power restriction? (OK, 2 quick questions.) If not, is installing it likely to cause any snags?
