check your battery contacts. I had the similar situation, the LED would just blink yellow and nothing. Aparently I managed to loose the contacts while I was charging battery with some improvised charger

Or the USB contacts. I had a similar problem once (could charge, no data). Took a big needle, removed a lot of fluff from the connector and it miraculously started working again. The fluff prevented the USB connector from pushing deep enough to make proper contact.

Hang on, you say you use Windows XP. Has that not been killed by Microsoft just recently? If you have never tried flashing on your PC before, then you might not have the necessary drivers installed and now, with XP being retired, you might not be able to get the drivers from Microsoft.

I recommend trying again in an Ubuntu live CD session.

If you don't know how, try the following:
- download the Linux version of flasher to the same place where your flash images are
- download an Ubuntu live CD image
- burn the CD
- boot from the CD
- go to the place on your hard drive with the images and Linux flasher
- install the flasher (just double-click on it in Nautilus; don't worry, it will only install it in the live session, not on your hard disk)
- open the terminal and cd to the same place
- run sudo flasher-3.5 and all the other command-line options

Do as @pichlo instructs, you do not need to install Linux, just run it from CDROM.
